Hydrotex is seeking a Manual Machinist to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:

The Manual Machinist is responsible for fabrication, modification, and operation of industrial machine tools and parts to precise specifications. The Manual Machinist develops and maintains these tools and parts utilizing knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

KEY TASKS:

  • Set up and operate machine parts and components for all pumps.
  • Preferred experience using horizontal boring machine.
  • Machine pump components to specifications including impellers, wear-rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to determine methods of operation
  • Perform precision metal cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting with various machinery (detailed below)
  • Check dimensions of critical components and translate into numerical form using inspection equipment
  • Evaluate machining procedures to ensure optimal efficiency
  • Maintain machine tools and equipment in proper operational condition
  • Comply with Hydro shop safety policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with Engineers, CNC Programmers, and other Machinists to troubleshoot problems and recommend solutions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & OTHER CHARACTERISTICS (KSAOs):

  • Knowledge of mathematics and ability to apply it in a shop setting
  • Knowledge of geometry to compute angles, radii, bolt circles, and other dimensions
  • Knowledge of feed rates and effects of adjustments
  • Skill in utilizing machinery described in Technology, Tools, & Machinery section
  • Skill in setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps
  • Ability to machine pump shafts of 3-10 ft and hold close tolerances of 0.0005 or less using steady rest

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a technical or vocational training program related to machinery
  • 5+ years of experience as a manual machinist in an industrial setting with proficiency in the specified equipment

TECHNOLOGY, TOOLS, & MACHINERY:

  • Machinery: Horizontal boring machines, vertical boring machines, center lathes, vertical turret lathes, ID/OD grinders, engine lathes, radial drills
  • Measuring tools: micrometer, caliper, depth gage, fixed gage, go-no-go gage, and templates
  • CAD software
