Hydro is seeking a Pump Design Engineer on a part-time, consultant basis to join our corporate Chicago team!

Our mission is to work hand-in-hand with our valued customers around the world to optimize the performance and reliability of their pumping systems by evaluating and understanding root causes of pump degradation or failure and by providing unbiased engineering analysis, quality workmanship, and responsive field service for improved plant operation.

Job Summary:

The Pump Design Engineer (consultant) will provide all the technical support as necessary to successfully design, manufacture, performance test, and install the gear pumps onsite. The position is a part-time, consulting position that will be assigned hours as needed by Hydro, Inc.

Job Requirements & Duties:

Pump selection:

  • Select a pump model available to fit with the application (performance & geometry fitment)
  • Consult/find the gear manufacturing vendor, performance test lab and any required sub-vendors to manufacture gear pumps

Pump design:

  • Provide solutions to design a completely new pump from application requirements
  • Support design of gear pumps from reverse engineering data (3D scanning data, hand sketches, etc.)
  • Design gears to meet hydraulic requirements (including generating manufacturing drawings)
  • Review and approve sectional drawings, layout drawing, manufacturing drawings, change/add tolerances and any other details as required

Manufacturing support:

  • Provide technical support during the manufacturing process, assembly process, performance test, and design modification process as required
  • Troubleshoot technical errors that may occur during the manufacturing of the pump, performance test, pump installation, and field test

Performance test and test lab set up:

  • Design the test lab for oil pumps
  • Assist in setup of the test labs
  • Provide technical support during the performance test and conduct troubleshooting of any issues that may arise

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or related field
  • Work history performing engineering in an industrial setting with knowledge of pump design
  • Retired/semi-retired candidates encouraged to apply

Other requirements:

  • Be able to work remotely during the projects
  • Willing to travel to Hydro facility when it is required for technical support
  • Be able to travel to customer’s site for field service if required
  • Perform job duties under a tight schedule
  • Provide technical training when it is required
